Verden Waiter Station and Slat Divide

Verden Waiter Station and Slat Divide

The waiter station was designed to be functional – by including bus tubs, cutlery dividers and a chopping board top slab - and to align with the overall aesthetic. Inspired by the traditional Japanese process of timber charring, Cumbrian artist Kim Butler blackened the ash and sycamore panels, before using a wire-brushing technique to distress the wood and create a textured finish.

Low level lighting and dark colours create cosy intimate seating for the Verden basement. The brightly lit kitchen, deli counter and cold room draw the eye in towards the action areas at the back.

Verden Big Ash Lamp

Verden Big Ash Lamp

Collaborating with Cumbrian woodturner Jonathan Leech, we created this lamp as a centrepiece to hang at the focal point of the room. Spanning a metre in diameter, this was an ambitious project. Thankfully with Johnny’s expert craftsmanship (not to mention his love of a challenge!), the result is phenomenal.

The Verden Big Ash Lamp uses its imposing natural wood turned finish against the minimal palate of the space to stand out and reflect the marriage of modern design and high skilled craft technique.
